A Dark Nightmare is an indie game from dapperpigproductions. This free-to-play game takes players on a creepy adventure inside their worst nightmare. Here, you will play a man trying to escape his past. To do so, you will need to reclaim artifacts lost to memory. However, you must avoid the demon lurking in the dark or the nightmare will repeat.

A Dark Nightmare is a short survival horror game. If you are lucky, you can make your escape within 10 to 20 minutes. The app is also lightweight, although it requires Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime and DirectX Runtime to run. 

How do you play this game?

A Dark Nightmare offers a simple premise typical of horror games. As mentioned, you play as a man trying to escape his nightmare. To do so, he will need to claim six artifacts scattered around a large map. After which, he will need to make a dash to his car and escape. However, there is a demon on the loose. If caught, your session ends, and the nightmare will repeat.

The controls of the game are easy. WASD allows you to move in all four directions while pressing shift lets you run. Meanwhile, the E key lets you interact with the artifacts you found. The entire map is dark. However, you can toggle for a flashlight by pressing the F key. Finally, you can crouch by tapping the C key and pause the game with the P key.

As noted, the game is very short, running only for 10 to 20 minutes. The gameplay is also easy, allowing some players to finish it in a shorter time. The movement of the scary woman is so predictable that you can run around the map without getting a close encounter with her. Speaking of the map, some players find it too large for a small number of items to collect.
